Biodiversity Panels, Coote’s Lane

ILLUSTRATION, DESIGN & CONTENT // Client: Kilkenny County Council // Sector: Education, Community

Project Description

The project involved the design, illustration and compilation of content for a series of eight outdoor signs. As per the brief, they reflect the look and feel of an existing mural on the laneway, which depicts characters from the film Wolfwalkers– an animation by Kilkenny-based studio Cartoon Saloon.

The panels are erected along a lane in Kilkenny city and cover themes of biodiversity, the natural environment and heritage. The general enhancement of Coote’s Lane was undertaken by Kilkenny County Council to encourage locals to use it on a daily basis. A new pedestrian bridge was installed over the River Breaghagh, linking communities to the town centre, enabling a pleasant, safe commute to work or school on foot or by bicycle.

The panels are designed to appeal to families and children as there is a primary school situated at the end of the lane.
